A scenario is an interactive training method that lets you, as an author, simulate real-life situations or challenges for your learners, allowing them to make impactful decisions. They’re great for developing role-specific and skills training, and anything where decision-making is key.
Watch this detailed walkthrough to learn how to create a scenario from scratch or using the existing golden path layout:
Add your first scenario
To get started with scenario, go to Add content and select Interactive from your content editor. Drag and drop the Scenario block into your course page. Next, you need to choose between the two options:
Create from scratch – design your own custom real-life scenario
Use existing layout – start with our pre-built golden path layout
Choose your preferred option to open the scenario editor.
Types of scenes
Every scenario begins with a mandatory Start scene. To keep building your scenario, you’ll have the option to choose between three different types of scenes – Dialogue, Information, and End.
Start scene
You’ll always begin with a Start scene for any scenario you create. The start scene is used to introduce or give context about the scenario to your learners.
Dialogue scene
Use dialogue scenes to interact with learners, present them with choices, and get their responses.
Information scene
Use information scenes to give feedback to learners or share additional details about the scenario.
End scene
Use end scenes to let the user know that they have reached the end of the scenario.
You can easily edit any scene from the Scenario editor. Simply hover over a scene thumbnail and click Edit to open the individual scene editor.
Adding and linking scenes
There are three ways to add a new scene to your scenario:
1. New scene button
Click the New scene button to open the scene editor. Select one of the three scene types and fill in the details.
2. Link to dropdown
In the scene editor, use the Link to dropdown to add a new scene while automatically linking it to the current one. If you already have existing scenes, you can also use it to link to an existing scene.
3. Drag the + icon
Drag any of the + icons around an existing scene and drop it in the empty space to create a new scene. Once the scene editor opens, choose a scene type and enter the details. You can also drag the + icon to link scenes to each other.
Deleting scenes and links
To delete a scene, click the bin icon on the scene thumbnail
To remove a link, click on the connector line in the scenario editor and select Delete link
Adding avatars and background images
Customize your scenes by selecting an avatar and background image that best fits your scenario. While avatars are optional, you also have the flexibility to choose different ones for each scene.
Avatars: Click the Avatar button to check out the available avatars. You can filter by age, attire, and gender, and even change their expressions.
Backgrounds: Click the Background button to upload an image from your PC, choose from your library or our stock collection, or simply paste an image link.
Preview scenario
Test your scenario’s flow and ensure everything is working perfectly by previewing it anytime.
Preview full scenario: Click the Preview button to experience the entire scenario as a learner.
Preview individual scenes: Click the Play button on a scene thumbnail or use the Preview option within the scene editor to test a specific scene.
Best practices
Golden path layout: For our existing golden path layout, we suggest providing learners with a good, average, and poor choice for dialogue scenes to ensure the best learning experience.
For optimal experience: We recommend using Chrome or Edge browsers for the best scenario creation experience. Safari may not provide the same level of performance. Scenario is mobile-friendly, so learners can enjoy them on the go as well.
Sourcing avatars: All avatars used in scenarios are sourced from Freepik through a subscription.
