Course outline gives you a structured overview of your course, helping you organize content in a clear, logical way. It lists all course elements—sections, pages, and questions—in the order learners will experience them.

This outline ensures your content flows smoothly and aligns with your learning objectives.

What makes up a course outline?

Your course is made up of three main building blocks: sections, pages, and questions. Each plays a key role in guiding your learners through the content.

Sections – Introduce a topic or concept

Sections help you group related content together. Each section centers around a specific theme, topic, or concept. Think of it as a chapter in your course. You can add multiple pages and questions within a section to explore the topic in depth.

Pages – Single learning unit to explain topics

Pages are where you present your actual learning content. Use them to explain concepts, share videos, add images, files, and more. Each page focuses on a specific point within the larger topic.

Questions – Check understanding

Questions help reinforce learning by assessing how well your learners grasp the content. Add them after pages or at the end of a section to check understanding and give feedback.

Why a course outline?

  • Helps learners navigate your content easily

  • Keeps your course organized and on-topic

  • Make sure each section supports your overall learning goals

Building your course outline

To build your outline, click Add Item in the course editor to start adding sections, pages, and questions.

As a best practice, start with sections to divide your course into clear topics. Then, add pages and questions within each section. The clearer your structure, the smoother your learners' experience will be.
