The Question pool allows you to create a set of questions in your course and choose how many should be shown to learners. When someone starts the test, Easygenerator randomly selects that number of questions from the full set and presents them in a randomized order.
Note: Non-scorable and survey questions are not included in the Question pool.
How to enable the Question pool
To activate the Question pool, you'll need to access the course settings by clicking on the three dots at the top right corner of the course editor and selecting Settings.
Once here, you'll find the Question pool under the Content and questions tab. Kindly note that the following course settings must be configured for the Question pool to be enabled:
Show content pages — disabled
Allow scoring of content pages — disabled
Mastery score — set at the overall course level
If the option is unavailable, click the information icon next to it to see which setting still needs to be adjusted.
Available Question pool options
Once the Question pool is enabled, you can choose how the questions are selected and how they appear to learners:
Show only a subset of xx random questions
Easygenerator will randomly select the number of questions you choose. The selected questions and their order are both randomized.
Same subset on every attempt
Learners will see the same selected questions each time they take the course.
Shuffle question order within the subset:
Randomizes the order of these same questions on every attempt.
New subset on every attempt
Learners get a different random selection each time.
When this option is used, “Show answers from the previous attempt” will automatically switch to Reset.
FAQ
Why isn’t the Question pool available in my course?
Why isn’t the Question pool available in my course?
It only becomes available when content pages are hidden, scoring of content pages is disabled, and the mastery score is set at the course level.
What if I want to show content pages and also use the Question pool?
What if I want to show content pages and also use the Question pool?
The Question pool only works when content pages are turned off, so both features can’t be used together in the same course. If you want learners to see content and take a randomized assessment, you have two options:
Create two separate courses:
Course 1: Contains your learning content
Course 2: Contains the Question pool as a standalone assessment
You can link the assessment course at the end of the content course using the course Afterword page.
Add content information inside each question’s instructions:
This keeps all content and questions in the same course. However, keep in mind that if a question is not selected for a learner (because of the random subset), that learner won’t see the information attached to that specific question.
Are survey questions included in the Question pool?
Are survey questions included in the Question pool?
No. Survey questions are always excluded. If you’d like to include a non-scorable question, you can use an Open question instead. Just keep in mind that if learners skip an open question, the system will register it as incorrect, so it’s helpful to let them know they should enter something before moving on.
Can I randomize the question order?
Can I randomize the question order?
Yes. Enable Shuffle question order within the subset.
Will learners see the same questions on every attempt?
Will learners see the same questions on every attempt?
Only if you choose Same subset on every attempt. Otherwise, they’ll receive a new random selection each time.
Does the Question pool affect learner tracking?
Does the Question pool affect learner tracking?
No, tracking works normally. Only the selection and order of questions change.
