Google will gradually phase out the Unload event starting in Q3 2024 with complete removal expected by Q1 2025. This change may affect courses published using the SCORM 1.2/2004 packages and those sent through PENS integration (LearnUpon only) before June 27, 2024.

Why is this update important?

We use the unload event for tracking course completion. To address this change and be in line with Google's latest developments, we are transitioning to the Pagehide event which will ensure even more reliable and smooth tracking of course completion and progress, especially for users of Google Chrome (version 117) and Microsoft Edge (as this browser is built on the same codebase as Chrome). For this reason, you may want to republish your courses with this updated setup.

What can you do to avoid unexpected impact?

Extensive testing has shown no major impacts on the functioning of our SCORM packages due to this change. Nevertheless, because LMS environments can differ, we recommend testing a SCORM package on your LMS to confirm there are no unexpected behaviors.

To test your SCORM packages, you can:

  • Step 1: Navigate to any Easygenerator course in your LMS that was published via SCORM before June 27th, 2024.

  • Step 2: Go over the course as if you were a learner, critically look at the learner's journey, and check if there is any unexpected behavior.

  • Step 3: Check if the results came through in your LMS as expected.

  • Step 4: If you find any unexpected behavior in your testing, kindly reach out to your dedicated Customer Success Manager or our Easygenerator Support Team.

Also, updating and republishing your courses will ensure smooth functioning if you notice any discrepancies. Here’s how you can do it:

  • Overwrite the existing course files: This updates the course but will overwrite the existing progress and results.

  • Create a new version: This preserves the old course data while adding the updated course.

  • Create a new entity: This option creates a completely new course entry in the LMS.

Note: If you publish your courses via PENS (LearnUpon), simply click on the resend button under the Publish step -> Integrations -> LearnUpon to apply the new setup.

How can you verify if your courses are up-to-date?

No worries, we've got you covered! If you encounter any issues after the fix, such as a new learner using a Chrome browser experiencing problems with an old course published before June 27, you might need to update all your courses on your LMS. If everything functions correctly, no further action is necessary.

We will also display a banner under the SCORM/xAPI tab (for Pro and Team plans) and the Integrations tab (for Enterprise plan) -> LearnUpon under the Publishing step, prompting you to re-upload your course if necessary.

What is Easygenerator doing?

Starting from Thursday, June 27th, 2024, our SCORM packages will no longer include the “unload event”. This ensures that all new SCORM packages published after this date are future-proof and aligned with Google’s latest developments.

For courses published before June 27th, you can choose to republish them to apply the new SCORM package format. This will guarantee compatibility and smooth functionality with the upcoming changes.
