Questions as content blocks

Learn how to add, configure, and organize Question as content blocks anywhere in your course content pages.

Written by Veronica

Questions are now available as content blocks, allowing you to add them anywhere on a content page alongside text, images, and other content blocks.

You can add multiple questions to the same page, combine questions with other content, and choose whether each question should be scored.

Add a question as a content block

  1. Open a content page in your course or add a new one.

  2. Click More on the toolbar or open Content blocks in the left sidebar.

  3. Navigate to the Questions section.

  4. Drag and drop or double-click the question type you want to add.

Edit a question added as a content block

After adding a question, hover over it and click Edit question to configure it. Here you will be able to:

  • Add the question title and answer options

  • Add instructions for the question if needed

  • Edit the question's settings

  • Add hints and feedback

Add content to question instructions

You can add content to the question instructions area to provide learners with additional context or information before they answer.

To add content, click on "Add instructions", then click on the plus (+) sign, or you can open the Content blocks section in the left sidebar and drag the content block you want into the question instructions area.

You can also move other content blocks into the question instructions area by dragging and dropping them inside the Question block.

Edit question's settings

Click on the gear icon, located to the right of the answer options (see the screenshot below), to choose whether you'd like the Question block to be scored or not, or if it'd be a Survey question.

  • Scored (default): Contributes to the learner’s score

  • Not scored: Gives learners instant feedback, but doesn’t affect their score

  • Survey: Collects learners' responses with no right or wrong answer

This allows you to combine scored assessments, non-scored activities, and surveys within the same course.

Organize questions added as content blocks

Hover over a Question block to access options on the left:

  • Move it.

  • Duplicate/Copy it.

  • Delete it.

Notes:

  • To move a question content block within the same course: you can drag the block using the six dots located on the left side and drop it in the desired position on the page, or drop it directly onto another page in the outline to relocate it there.

  • To move a question content block to another course: click on the duplicate icon and select "Copy block to"; there you can choose the course and page you'd like to move the question to.

What happens with your existing question pages?

Existing question pages are automatically migrated to a content page containing a single Question block. The new content page and Question block will inherit the title of the original question page.

You can restructure, edit, move, or duplicate these migrated Question blocks just like any other question block once they've been converted. Keep in mind that these changes may cause learners currently in progress to restart the course from the beginning.
